Hans Rosling TED Talk

May 10, 2007

I might have out this up before but I don’t really give a shit because this is so cool. Hans Rosling has so much fun with data, questions the concept of developing countries, and makes great arguments for the break down of copyright at the very end. It is a 20 minute video but it is wirth your time.

So she’s really cute

May 9, 2007

So this girl is really cute and I love how she fields questions. She doesn’t feed O’Reilly anything that would obviously rile him up, and she seems unphazed by his, I don’t know how to describe it, ridiculousness? Unfortunately I feel like she wasted time in the beggining of the interview by not getting into specifics immideatly (like guantanamo), and some of her arguments, while I understand where they might be coming from (like why she thinks Americans agree with her view point is better said that Americans are more benefitted from her policy, which may not be true) because I think I do the same thing sometimes, are weak.

Anyway figure it out for yourself. There was some good discussion on the message boards of this video too, which doesn’t happen on YouTube often, so hit that too.

Thought I’d add to the madness

Booze plus technology equals cocktail slinging cowgirl

April 25, 2007

I booze face as hard as the next guy, but if I ever see a girl wearing this I’ll marry her on the spot. Not really, but this is such a great waste of neoprene and plastic buckles that I can’t say no to this gadget.

Drunk cowgirlOnce in a while, Gizmodo comes across that rare object, that invention that showcases the amazing nature of human genius and the never-ending quest for perfection that lifts the spirits of every man and woman in the planet.

That gadget is clearly not the Booze Belt, something that celebrates two of the finest american traditions: shooting and getting drunk, but not necessarily in that order. It includes two holsters for your favorite alcohol bottles and six slots to hold your shot glasses, which come with the pack. The Booze Belt costs $89.99, tequila, limes and salt not included. The pic of the model holding her pistols after the jump is, sadly, completely free.

Considering I’ve worked at Apple, flown on Jet Blue, own a Target credit card (money goes toward a public school of your choice!), owned a Volkswagan GTI, and drink Vitamin Water . . . I’m pretty trendy.

The Most Trusted 15 brands named by the trendsetters in the survey were:

Apple
Trader Joe’s
Jet Blue
In-N-Out Burger
Ben & Jerry’s
Whole Foods
Adidas
American Apparel
Target
H & M clothing stores
Levi’s
Volkswagen
Converse
Vitamin Water
Red Stripe Jamaican beer

Now that I’m graduating . . .

April 23, 2007

I need to start thinking about how to save money. Like many college students my income has been heavily supplemented by my parents. But that’s not going to happen anymore and I want to be healthy and wealthy when I’m older so I need something called a 401(k) and a Roth IRA (isn’t that a resistance movement in Ireland?).
Here’s the advice:

Kick off retirement savings

1. Start saving ASAP
2. Sign up for that 401(k)
3. Use a Roth
4. Be aggressive
5. Get educated
6. Build an emergency stash
7. Avoid deb

Cat rides bus

April 11, 2007

Bus riding cat

Bus drivers have nicknamed a white cat Macavity after it has started using the No 331 several mornings a week.

The feline, which has a purple collar, gets onto the busy Walsall to Wolverhampton bus at the same stop most mornings – he then jumps off at the next stop 400m down the road, near a fish and chip shop.
